What personal information we collect and why


When users submit comments to the site, we collect information from the comment form, along with the user’s IP address and browser version information, to help identify spam.

When visitors leave a comment on this site, we collect the information displayed in the comment boxes, the IP address and browser version information. Anonymous hash generated from the email address can be sent to the Gravatar service to determine if the commenter is a user of the service. The Gravatar Privacy Statement can be found at


If you are uploading images to this site, you should avoid uploading images that contain stored location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site can download and view geographic information from the images on the site.

If you leave a comment on the site, you can choose to save the name, email address and url to the cookie. This feature adds convenience because you don’t have to fill out the form each time you add a comment. The cookie information will be deleted from the browser after one year.

If you have an account and log in to the site, we will set a temporary cookie that will determine whether or not your browser supports cookies. This cookie does not contain any personal information and will be deleted when the browser window is closed.

When you sign in, we set a number of cookies to store your login and display settings. Sign-in cookies will be deleted within two days, cookies related to display settings will be deleted in one year. If you select “Remember Me” at login, your login information will be retained for two weeks. If you log out, the cookies associated with the logout will be deleted at the same time.

If you publish an article or edit an existing one, we will save a cookie in the browser that contains the article ID you want to edit. The cookie expires in one day.

How long we keep the information

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata will be retained for the time being. This is so that we can automatically recognize and approve the following comments instead of keeping them in the moderation queue.

We record user profile information for registered users (if any). All users have the opportunity to view, edit and delete their personal information at any time. Only the username cannot be changed. Website administrators can view and edit user profile information.

What rights do you have to your information?

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request a composite file of your personal information, including any personal information you have provided to us. You can also request the removal of your personal information. The right to delete personal information does not apply to personal data that we must retain for administrative, legal or security reasons.
